Sharna Burgess doesn’t feel content with her Dancing With the Stars’ legacy,Hurt especially in the wake of recent commentary surrounding her only Mirrorball Trophy win.
The 39-year-old reacted to fellow dancer and current DWTS cohost Julianne Hough saying she didn’t think radio DJ Bobby Bones, Sharna’s season 27 partner, deserved the victory.
“It also sucks that of all the incredible seasons I had, I’m remembered as the win that no one wanted,” Sharna shared on the Between Us Moms podcast Oct. 9. “I think even Julianne was recently in an interview saying, ‘The win that should never have happened out of all 33 seasons was Bobby Bones.’ It just sucks. It does hurt a little bit because I wish I could have left a good legacy, like, a beautiful legacy on Dancing With the Stars after my time. But it’s ok.”
In fact, Hough agreed with fellow WWHL guest Mickey Guyton during the Aug. 18 episode, who named Bobby as the DWTS winner she “strongly disagreed” with.
“I actually agree with you,” Julianne told Mickey at the time. “And I think it's because of the fan base. It's all about fan base on that show. He was not the best dancer.”
E! News has reached out to a rep for Julianne for comment and has not heard back.
Sharna—who shares 2-year-old son Zane with fiancé Brian Austin Green—was not asked back as a dance pro for season 33 of the hit dancing competition show, a decision that she has very publicly been upset by.
She believes the decision came down to her public criticism of the show casting NFL player Adrian Peterson on season 32, despite his past NFL suspension for child abuse.
“I shared my personal opinions as a mother on how I felt about a particular contestant on the show that had been charged with child abuse of his 3-year-old at the time,” Sharna explained. “And when I shared it as a mother, I was a year into motherhood.”
The Australian choreographer added that she feels there’s a double standard on the show.
“This season, Maks [Chmerkovskiy] has shared very openly how he felt about Anna [Delvey] and criticized the show and that she was there,” Sharna said of eliminated contestant Anna, a professional conartist who had to wear her ankle monitor on the show. “And he’s still on set and having a great relationship with everyone on Dancing With the Stars.”
However, despite the tension, Sharna is open to returning to the hit show one day.
“If they did ask me, I think I would love to have one more season there with everyone as a way to button it up,” she shared. “After 14 years on the show, it doesn’t feel like it was a beautiful way for it to end after so much love and so much memory.”
